Pumpkin Patch Tarantula (Hapolopus sp. Colombia)
Housing Requirements: Requires moist soil. Slings burrow, adults spin lots of webs, and enjoy anchor points (fake plants, sticks, etc!). This adorable dwarf species has big personalities. It'll be fun watching them grow from spider juvenile to adulthood - and they grow fast. They have a ferocious appetite and can take down prey as big as themselves, so feeding time is always an event. They are inquisitive and will often rush to an opening if their territory is disturbed. This species is colorful and spends most of its time outdoors, making it perfect for display. Slings often dig holes and need moisture to thrive. They start out small but grow quickly, especially if kept in a warm environment. Adult animals prefer a slightly deeper substrate in which to burrow and use corks, sticks and artificial plants. It is a good idea to keep water in the enclosure, as this species has been observed drinking from both webbing and water bowls.
